Welcome on the website of the French group on infective endocarditis
Infective endocarditis is a rare (30 case/million/year in France) but severe disease (with a mortality rate of 20%). Infective endocarditis epidemiological profile significantly changed over the years. A disease of the young adult with preexisting valvular disease, often post-rheumatismal, it now involves older patients, among which many doesn't have a known preexisting valvular disease.
These changes, in addition to its severity, warrant epidemiological and clinical research to improve the management of patients with infective endocarditis as well as prevention. However, limited controlled studies or prospective cohorts were carried out, not to mention randomized studies.
L'AEPEI (Association pour l'Etude et la Prevention de l'Endocardite Infectieuse) was created in 1990, and carried out multiples large studies on infective endocarditis and provide tools for medical doctor to improce both care and prevention of infective endocarditis. Links to these tools are provided on the right panel.
AEPEI members are physicians-researchers coming from various disciplines involved in diagnosis and treatment of this diseases: Cardiologists, infectious disease specialist, internal medicine specialist, microbiologist, heart surgeons etc.
This website is provided for the general population searching for information on infective endocarditis. It is also a tool for communication and coordination for its members.
